Snoring

Snoring is no laughing matter. At best it may be a minor annoyance, but at worst it can ruin relationships and have knock-on physical and pyschological effects brought on by lack of sleep.

There are countless remedies available from over-the-counter devices and potions to the more drastic option of surgery, but none of them can guarantee a cure. You may have even tried some of them and yet you are still snoring and either causing yourself or your partner to suffer from lack of sleep.

Most often it's not the snorer who suffers but the partner. After all, they're the ones who have to put up with the noise while you sleep obliviously, driving them nuts, causing them lack of sleep and in turn exhaustion with possible health and psychological repercussions.

Of course, the snorer may suffer too. Snoring is often indicative of poor quality sleep, which means you aren't getting the benefits of a full and proper night's relaxation, leading to tiredness, irritability and a decreased libido.

How can hypnotherapy help?
There are two approaches to the problem of snoring – one treats the person who snores and the other helps the partner affected by the snorer. Ideally it would be best to follow both avenues, but most likely it will be the snorer who is treated.

Treating the snorer involves teaching the subconscious mind to keep the right muscle tone in order to keep airways working efficiently. We do this throughout the day and during rest and hypnotherapy can condition the mind to continue this work during sleep. It is your subconscious mind that controls many automatic behaviours and it is in this area that hypnotherapy excells. Hypnotherapy will also train you in your pre-bedtime behaviour, encouraging you to stop activities that would have negative impact on sleep.

In treating the person affected by snoring, hypnotherapy would help them get a better night's sleep by conditioning them not to 'hear' the snoring. Anticipation of snoring can be as stressful as listening to the noise itself. Just as factory workers can shut-off from the noises that surround them, you can be conditioned to shut-off from the noise of snoring, to not pay it any attention and in effect not hear it. Hypnotherapy works in this respect by targeting how the brain processes noise in the moments before you fall asleep.

Imagine what it would be like to:
Enjoy a full night's sleep with your partner
Sleep an entire night without snoring or having to listen to snoring
Be in control of your breathing
Wake feeling refreshed
Be free from tiredness and irritability
Get your relationship back on track
